About the project

The Problem to solve:

The average patient will visit their doctor 4 times yearly. Taking information during these visits is not enough to gather enough information for doctors. Alternatively, having patients tracking their information in written form, or via multiple applications on their mobile phone is imprecise. There is a need from both the patient, and the physician, for an accurate, simple-to-use, and multifunctional tracking tool for diabetes, hypertension, mental health and cancer screening in one place.

The process:

Design Brief:

Create a functional solution so that patients can track their medical data for multiple ailments in one easy to use application. There will be 4 initial tabs: Diabetes, Hypertension, Mental Health & Cancer Screening. There will also be a smaller tab called “My Medications” on the main page for patients.

Under the Hypertension page: A tab where a user can input their blood pressure readings with the date and time in an organized, longitudinal dataset. Other tabs for hypertension would include health education, diet recommendations and exercise.

Similarly, under the Diabetes page, tabs would include a dataset to input one’s blood sugars with date and time. Other tabs would be diet recommendations and exercise.

For this stage only Hypertension, Diabetes & My Medications need to be fully fleshed out, with Cancer Screening and Mental Health coming later.

Temporary name for application: My Health Ontario, or MyHealthOn

Colour scheme: Blue & white.

Timeframe: 14 days.

Iteration:

Since the timeline was tight, I treated this as a sprint. First I built out the skeleton of the site, mapping out which screens I would need to build to get a sense of what functions and UI. The goal was to make this easy to navigate.

I iterated and drew lots of inspiration from current Fintech models, tracking applications (such as mental health and menstrual cycle trackers) and healthcare branding. I gravitated towards simple-to-navigate controls, monochromatic colour schemes and data points that were easy to digest at a glance. Essentially, what would be simple enough for a patient to use daily, while still providing ample data for the physician during an appointment.

From there, initial wireframes were developed, sent to the clients and they chose their favourites to proceed with, with notes on what to change.

Results

From there I created a moodboard, pulling from the ideas of “clean, minimal, clinical”. The softness of architectural curves mirrored from nature cut through the coldness of white & blue. I colourized the designs and fine-tuned the padding and margins. The clients were thrilled with the results.

I created mock-ups for sample advertisements, highlighting the functionality while playing with hierarchy and colour. This project is currently in the pre-seed funding stage.
